  1. We used to keep mileage records of all our training when we rode Competitive Trail. I think one of our high-mileage years was about 600 for both of us. I missed it somewhere - when did you start endurance?

  2. I've been considering buying a second horse to use as an endurance horse. I also have a gelding and am looking at a mare. Most people in my region compete on one horse. What are the drawbacks and benefits you've found from having the 2 you compete with? Thanks!

    1. I'll be honest, 2 isn't always enough--haha! Due to a few factors, I only do LDs on Blaze, and that makes Desire my only true endurance horse. Since she's having hind end issues we're working on diagnosing, I'm SOL as far as 50s, which sucks!! So..all I can say is I LOVE having 2, or as many as I can get away with ;) I've been fairly lucky as far as no crazy accidents or vet bills (knock on wood), up until this issue with my mare which is now at ultrasounds, after blood tests--this may continue to get pricey. So, you take more risk with more animals and possible bills..take on what you can take responsibility for, and roll the dice as we do, every day. Hope you find a great mare!

    2. We'll I quickly learned this week why it will be useful. My gelding pulled a muscle in his back. :( My biggest concern has been time enough for two (without completely neglecting the hubby!). On the flip side it would keep me from over conditioning my boy too. I'm one of those people who take forever to make a decision on big purchases and tend to talk myself in circles. Of course now he is out for up to four weeks in the middle of the season, so having her is actually going to be a good thing! Thanks for the input!
